Reducing your environmental footprint - Where to Start?

Where do we start when considering how to reduce our environmental footprint? After much discussion and some research we have decided to start simple and then build to the more complex / expensive tasks. The first few items we are focusing on are;

  • Seal the fireplaces in the lounge (it is only used ones or twice a year);
  • Add shade to some of the windows that get a lot of direct summer sunlight;
  • Switch off the computer/computer monitors when we are away from the computer (we tend to leave it running all day);
  • Install Compact fluorescent lights; and
  • Train ourselves to turn off lights when we leave a room.

Stay tuned to see how we go in this first stage.

In the next few weeks we will provide an overview of our house in its unmodified form and from there begin to document the successes, failures and associated costs of transforming our home.
